FANS who thought Warrington had done a bad swap by trading Jake Mamo for Peter Mata’utia had been shown otherwise, coach Daryl Powell suggested after the big win over Castleford tonight.

Powell and Matautia, who both transferred from the Tigers to the Wolves during the off-season, enjoyed a 34-10 win over their former team at Halliwell Jones Stadium to kick off Super League’s round two.

After a shaky start for Powell’s team against Leeds, it was a consummate showing in which Mata’utia was man of the match and Mamo was forced off injured.

“I know there was a fair bit here about Jake Mamo leaving and Pete Mata’utia (coming),” Powell told Sky Sports.

“I think he’s answered those questions.today and that’s what he would have wanted to do, I think.

“You see physically what he’s got. He’s got a lot as a person as well.”

Warrington led 12-0 at halftime and were never really troubled. Their biggest headache was a mascot not correctly delivering the ball for the kick-off.

Warrington winger Josh Charnley’s try brace brought his career total to 251 and the mark was reached as he brought up a century of appearances for the Wolves.

Round two continues tomorrow with Leeds travelling to Wigan.
