This project was a corporation with a Visual Communication student as a service for students from the Wharton Penn Entrepreneurship program. the project titled IYALI, named after the IYALI company which aims to provide employment for local female artisans in developing West African countries. The end goal of our project was to manufacture something people would want to buy with the added benefit of a social impact. During our research we became intrigued by the work of Senegalese Photographer Omar Victor Diop who intertwines traditional African heritage with its modern culture, demonstrably soccer related. The process resulted in a focus on sports and Activewear aimed to follow Diop’s themes in the silhouettes and prints, bringing the joy and vividness of West-African colors to functional attire.
